Each of the 10 road routes in this section are downloadable to most popular smartphones and GPS devices. Its time to ride!

You only need to take a look at the fantastic weather outside to know that it’s a great time to get out for a ride. The roads are free of ice and the trails are drying out nicely! If you still need an incentive then take a look at our Bike Events page, here you will find a whole host of local races and group rides sutible for all ages and abilities.

For all the ladies out there interested in trying out a bit of road cycling, we currently have a great selection of womens specific road bikes in stock. Trek 29ers Now In stock!

If you haven’t already heard, in the world of Mountain Biking 29ers are the next big thing!

The roots of Mountain biking trace back to California on the west coast of America back in the mid 70s. People like Gary Fisher and his friends would push their bikes to the top of the steepest hill and race back down to the bottom. They very quickly realized that their normal cycling equipment just wasn’t up to the job. To tackle this issue they would use the toughest bikes they could find (usually 26’’wheeled beach cruisers) and then by adding parts from motorbikes and anything else they could find they slowly converted their cruisers into something stronger. Although the riders didn’t know it at the time, they were actually creating what we now know as the Mountain bike.

Ever since then brands have been pushing technology and developing all sorts of weird and wonderful components. In all that time the wheels have stayed the same size as those on the original beach cruisers, that’s until now!

Still in the business of bicycle manufacturing one of the original purveyors of MTBing ‘Gary Fisher’ has worked in partnership with Brands like Trek and Bontrager to develop new faster bikes utilizing larger 29”wheels.

The benefits of using larger wheels are more profound than the brands had first anticipated. With a larger diameter wheel comes the ability to simply roll over obstacles that once could only be attacked using long travel suspension and heavy duty components. Much like rolling a football and a tennis ball over a grass lawn the football is able to roll for longer. This is due in part to its angle of attack allowing the bigger football to ‘eat up’ anything in its path.

A larger wheel also seems to carry its momentum and speed a lot more proficiently, a fact proven by road cyclists over many years. This really helps when riding through thick mud and on difficult climbs.

Many taller riders are also seeing the benefits of a bigger wheeled bike. Although the wheelbase of a 29er is designed to be the same as a standard 26’’ wheeled bike the geometry and stability of the larger wheeled machine really suites the vertically gifted!
